HBO Announces Plans for a Game of Thrones NFTs

  • The new Game of Thrones NFT will feature avatars inspired by the show’s characters and iconic moments.
  • The organizers have yet to give an official release date or price for the collection.

Game of Thrones (GOT) fans can once again say “winter is coming” as the series is set to launch its own NFTs. Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and HBO have reportedly partnered with NFT creator Nifty to launch NFTs based on the thrilling season. Both parties are yet to announce a launch date, but fans can expect the NFTs later this year.

Since the last episode of the HBO hit series aired in 2019, GOT fans have been on the lookout for anything “GOT.” The show’s creators recently released “House of the Dragon,” a prequel to Game of Thrones. However, fans will be more thrilled to own digital collectibles of their beloved show.

The GOT NFTs, known as “Game of Thrones: Build Your Realm,” will be designed, developed, and produced by digital production company Daz 3D in collaboration with Nifty. The collection will allow fans to build their own realms by collecting avatars inspired by their favorite characters from the television series. The Game of Thrones NFT collection will feature various digital items, including gear, weapons, and companions, enabling collectors to alter the qualities of their avatars.

According to a Nifty blog post,

Other collectible types will include iconic moments, locations, characters, and more from the Game of Thrones series that will help each collector build their realm.

Other NFTs will feature memorable episodes, “Game of Thrones” characters, and locations. WBD noted that fans would also be able to participate in “thematic activities and on-site engagement” as part of the experience.

Josh Hackbarth, head of NFT Commercial Development for Warner Bros. Discovery, said in a release,

We’re excited to expand the ‘Game of Thrones’ fandom and franchise with this unique digital collectible program that’ll engage fans on a deeper level, allowing them to immerse into the world of Westeros, and enhance the overall fan experience.

Game of Thrones joins a number of other movie projects that have been featured in the blockchain world. Fans will hope the collection is as successful as the series.
