Samsung Employs Blockchain-Based Security for Its Devices

  • Samsung intends to protect users against hacks while keeping login easy.
  • The phone company has already made a series of high-profile investments in Web3 since 2021.

Samsung, a smartphone producer, has announced that it would leverage blockchain technology to build a security service for its devices. The tech company revealed that the Samsung Knox Matrix, a security platform, would provide top-notch security features used by leading agencies. Samsung confirmed that all of its devices would have access to Knox Matrix and receive a unified SDK, even if they are based on any OS, including Android or Tizen.

The Knox Matrix will not be limited to smartphones but will instead extend to other Samsung products, including its home appliances such as air conditioners, smart TVs, and refrigerators. According to the company, the security service will serve as a private blockchain for each user, giving them a renewed sense of safety.

Speaking on the importance of the new security feature, an official statement said,

With Samsung Knox Matrix, we envision that users need not compromise on their connectivity in order to stay protected. Samsung Knox Matrix is set to provide the devices within a user’s ecosystem with fewer vulnerabilities through strong, diverse security practices

Although modern phones have made communication easier, the internet remains a great risk to information and personal data. So, Samsung has made it a priority to provide safety for its users. As a result, the Knox Matrix will protect users’ credentials from hacks while keeping the login experience simple.

The appliance maker has not yet provided any details about the operation of the security protocol leveraging blockchain technology. However, the company’s community believes the development is worth the attention. They also anticipate how other smartphone manufacturers will apply blockchain technology for security.

Samsung joins the list of many popular brands seeking to increase their use of blockchain technology. The phone manufacturer has been growing its presence on Web3 and announced the launch of its “Samsung Wallet” at its “Unpacked 2022” virtual event earlier this year. Samsung already has a location in Decentraland, showing how intent it is on keeping up with the industry.

In addition, Samsung’s latest series of smart TVs support NFT. The tech company reportedly incorporated the South Korean Central Bank’s digital currency into its flagship smartphone in August 2021. Officials at Samsung Next have in the past spoken about the importance of blockchain technology and Samsung’s commitment to leverage it for its products.
